Payment exceptions and how they get closed

Updated 07 Sep 2026

An exception is LEAT saying "these two things do not agree and a person
has to find out why". This page is about how they work, because a queue
nobody understands is a queue nobody works.

What opens one

  • The total that left the account is not the total on the sheet.
  • A batch went to the bank and no debit has appeared.
  • The debit landed and this beneficiary has no result.
  • A payment went out and came back.
  • The bank says it happened and the accounts have no entry, or a different one.
  • A sheet came back unsigned.
  • A submission was recorded and LEAT held no copy of the bank mandate to check it against.

Every one has a name and an age

Not a team. A person. An exception owned by "Finance" is an exception
nobody is working.

The age is on it from the moment it opens, and the alert LEAT raises is
about the oldest open exception, not how many there are. A count that
holds steady while the age climbs looks healthy on a dashboard and means
nobody is touching the queue.

Nothing closes on a timer

A person closes it, in writing, saying what actually happened. "Resolved"
is not a resolution and the software will refuse it: somebody reading this
in two years has to be able to tell what became of the money.

Whoever created the fact does not close the complaint about it

If you imported the file that produced an exception, somebody else
decides it. You have an opinion about it, and that is exactly why.

A resolution can move a payment, but it can never settle one

"The bank confirmed by telephone that Asha was credited" is a real fact
and can be recorded. It still does not mark the payment as paid.

Only an outcome from the bank does that. A sentence in a resolution box
cannot stand in for one, however true it is.
