What an invoice from LEAT means

This page is for anybody who receives an invoice from LEAT and
wants to know what it is and what it is not.

Amounts are in whole shillings

The Tanzanian shilling has no smaller unit in circulation, so
our invoices carry no cents. If you see a figure like
TSh 3,422, that is the exact amount. It has not been shortened
for display.

Where an invoice is in another currency, it says so on the
invoice itself. We do not add up amounts in two currencies.

How the total is worked out

1. Each line is quantity times price.
2. A discount on the whole invoice is spread across the lines in proportion to their size.
3. Tax is charged on what each line has left after that discount.
4. The lines always add back up to the total. If they do not, tell us, because that is a fault.

Two people see every invoice

The person who writes an invoice is not the person who sends
it. Somebody else reads it first.

What a receipt from us proves

A receipt says we recorded your payment against a specific
invoice on a specific date, with the reference you gave us.

It does not say the money has cleared our bank. If a bank later
returns a payment, we reverse the entry and both the original
and the reversal stay on your record. We will tell you.

If an invoice is wrong

Reply to whoever sent it. We cancel the wrong invoice and issue
a new one with a new number. We do not delete the old one, and
you should keep both.
