Removing a file from a folder does not delete it

Removing a file from a folder takes away the shortcut. The document itself is still kept, and you can put it back.

Why it works that way

A file in LEAT can appear in more than one project without being copied. What you see in a folder is a pointer at one document, so removing it removes the pointer.

What actually deletes something

Only a records disposition, and it is a long process on purpose:

1. A records officer proposes a batch and it is frozen, so it cannot change afterwards.
2. Somebody else approves it. The person who proposed it cannot approve it.
3. Somebody else again carries it out. The person who approved it cannot carry it out.
4. Every item is reconciled and a certificate says what was actually destroyed.

At every one of those steps, a preservation order over any item stops the whole batch.

What archiving a project does

Nothing is deleted. Files stay exactly where they are and stay under whatever retention and preservation rules already applied. What changes is that new files cannot be added.
